Banned Books in the Wine Country
Since 2009 we've gathered annually for a one-day mini-retreat at the Calistoga Spa Hot Springs in the wine country. Calistoga is a lovely small town at the northern end of the Napa Valley, at the foot of Mt. St. Helena. There are many excellent restaurants and delis in town, but no fast food -- it's against the law! For those who wish to extend their wine country stay, we'll send a list of local accommodations when we accept your registration.
Each year, the Wine Country Mini-Retreat examines a banned book. In the morning we start with a book discussion, and then after lunch we view and discuss a film adaptation.
For this year's mini-retreat on October 6, 2018, we'll focus on a work of literature that caused great controversy, Animal Farm by George Orwell.
